The trial resumes after three days of interruption. During that time, some major changes have taken effect in the composition of the Court. On Wednesday, five judges elected in January 2009 for nine year terms were sworn in, to replace those judges whose term had expired. More importantly, after six years of heading the Court, its first President, Philippe Kirsch, was replaced by Judge Sang-Hyun Song. Canadian Judge Kirsch has often been called one of the ‘midwives' of the Court, since he chaired the Rome Conference in 1998 and the ICC's Preparatory Commission from 1998 to 2002.
